Default Radiator for manual 96 XJ

So I've been looking around for a radiator which matches the existing one in my 96 Classic. (I've been changing components of the cooling system for about 2 months... fighting the typical overheating problem). I ordered a 2-core from Discount Radiator. Came in, looked great, except that it's got the tranny cooler lines as well, which are for an automatic. Every single one I've looked at online has the tranny lines too.

So I have some questions for anyone who's dealt with this:

1. Can I use the one I bought w/o hooking up the tranny lines? Is it gonna spew if I do?

2. Anyone know where I can find a radiator (more efficient than the stock one) for a manual tranny without any un-needed lines?

Thanks!

You can use the radiator you have. The trans cooler is sealed off from the coolant.

Thanks fellas. Love this place.

I'm not familiar with the construction of a 2-row rad, so my only other question is this: How will the cooling capacity of the new one compare to the stock? I would think it would have to be better, but are like half the cores for the tranny cooler and the other half for coolant or what?

either way only a few passages are for the trans. it will help with cooling in the aspect of more fluid capacity. the t-stat regulates temp.

Yeah, if the trans cooler and radiator bridged it'd be bad. Mixing cooland and trans fluid would nuke the trans real fast. Prolly gum up your cooling system, but I'd imagine the trans would nuke first.

If you do want to use plugs, cheap compression fitting plugs from any home improvement store will work.

i have a an "automatic" radiator in mine as well. its doesnt take away from your cooling aspect one bit. Run and dont worry about the tranny lines they are sealed off completely.
