im having an issue with my radiator... dont know what the problem is but the motor got hot today and spit antifreeze everywhere and dumped it out the overflow as well. what baffles me is the temp guage never went above 210. can anyone tell me what the issue is?

thanks. today wasnt stop and go it was just freeway but i went through a drive through and smelled antifreeze and all my guages were fine but i stopped and lifted the hood and it was steaming and antifreeze was all over the motor plus it was pouring out the overflow. the temp guage is accurate up to 210 but i dont know if it stops there for some reason but ive never seen it go over that. i bought a new thermostat but havent replaced yet. is that the issue or is it a pressure thing due to a faulty radiator cap? or simply not enough air flow?

a proper working cooling system does not need this is my answer, if you start running warm the coolant temp sensor will turn it on automaticly engine need to maintain certain temps for proper sensor function...but its your jeep do what you want not what people tell you ...jm2cw...

Worst case is if the head is cracked or the head gasket is blown a certain way, it will over-pressurize the cooling system resulting in what you experienced.

Since you did not get a temperature rise prior to coolant blowing out, I don't really think it is the thermostat or fans.

Sorry.

I think there are test strips to check for combustion gasses in the coolant.

If things haven't been maintained for years, it may be time to throw some parts/TLC at it. Maintenance is done before something breaks and when convenient.....repairs are done when something breaks and seldom when convenient.
