The single row on the site, and I believe they have it in stock locally is less than $100.00. If that one will work I got No problems saving the extra bucks for sure.

The way I look at it, the OE 1 row (1.25" thick core) rad worked when the XJ was new, so why wouldn't it work now? If the 2 & 3 row aftermarket rads actually had 2 or 3X thicker (than OE stock) cores, that would be different, but they're not.

But increasing the amount of rows increases surface area right? Increasing opportunity for air to cool said surface, thus coolant. Or am i wrong. Have been before. Like once. Not real familiar with these aftermarket rads.

We go to pull the rad and realize that a tool is needed that I don't own.. The disconnect for the bottom hose, I think it's the transmission line. My question is, on the new rad the connections don't look the same.. Will I need to pull parts off the old one to put on the new one?

If the multi-row core is basically the same thickness as a 1 wide row OE type core, the amount of coolant in the core is reduced (more metal but less coolant). If the core of a 2 or 3 row rad was 2X or 3X thicker than OE, that would be different.

Not sure, a pic is worth 1K words. Our replacement rad was identical to the OE rad, including the tranny line connections.

Just replaced the radiator on my 96. I bought the 2 row off ebay for 53$ shipped to my door. Now as for the tranny line if it's the same on yours there are like two little metal things sticking out a little bit. You push those in then kind of push and pull and it will come right out. I was having a hell of a time with it and my almost 70 year old vietnam/korean war veteran neighbor happened to stop by and popped it right off with ease. just make sure to be squeezing those two clips you might call them together. If you look at it you will know what i mean. as for your leak mine was near the battery on the radiator as well. Kept it full of water for half the summer til i replaced it in october.
Good luck,
Lee

Yes, the bottom connector is what's giving me trouble.. They make a tool that fits on and pushes inside to relieve the tension.. I picked up the wrong size tool..

So your saying he did it without a tool? That'd be nice.. As for squeezing, not sure it can be squeezed.. Have to look at it again in the morning..
Thanks for reply..

Can you send me the sellers eBay name? That would half what I paid, and bonus if it comes with the connectors..

The bottom OE style connector is a "quick connect". The disconnect tool, available at most auto parts stores, usually comes in multiple sizes for multiple applications. Apply a little lube to the new quick connect before connecting.

Be careful with regard to aftermarket multi-row rads. Two 1/2" wide rows don't hold/flow as much coolant as a single 1 1/4" wide OE style row.
