follow directions! If you hook it up wrong (ie backwards.) and have not flushed the system in a while, rusty crud can gunk up your heater core...heater cores are NOT fun to replace. But I did the same flush with the prestone kit and a bottle of the super duty radiator cleaner. (my coolant was pretty brown in color) Between that and a new thermostat, my Pioneer seems like a way happier rig, temp wise.

which hose do i cut into? there is one that goes to the thermo housing and one that i think goes to the water pump? i a novice chick mechanic...but i am totally into doing this. i just don't want to mess it up. also...is there a way that i can responsibly capture all of the stuff that will flow out of the splash adapter. it seems kinda chaotic and messy

You can also just remove the top heater hose from the tstat housing, upper rad hose at tstat housing, rad cap, and then pull the petcock plug. Then stick a garden hose in the upper rad house and run the engine. It's a bit messy but works great. Mine took about 10 minutes to run clear.

I used this adapter kit years ago before my 88 jeep came with a closed system, without a place to put the radiator cap spout. I used this on my older jeep CJ-7, Comanchee truck and cars. The package should have instructions on which hose to cut and apply the T-adapter. There is really no way to catch the old fluid coming out of the spout, since it usually shoots about a 1 to 2 feet from the vehicle. After flushing, until clear water shows from the spout, open the pepcock on the radiator and drain it. Refill the radiator with new fluid (concentrate not pre-mix) engine block should have plain water still in it. I would just cap the T-adapter and leave it installed.
