Default radiator fan not working

to make a long story kinda short I have recently replaced the radiator, the electric fan, both hoses, thermostat, fan relay, and the coolant temp sensor. all of the parts are brand new and the electric fan never kicks on. the temp gauge is reading below 210 degrees, from my understanding it shouldn't kick on until its around 220. the fan doesn't even come on when I have the A/C on full blast. I don't know whats wrong with it any suggestions are greatly appreciated. also my check engine light came on right before the last radiator blew, is there a sensor that I might need to replace ?

first off we need to know what year XJ you have. I know on the Renix model there was a temp sensor on the side of the block that would work the fan. I had a similar problem with mine it would not turn on at all, or it would spin for a second and that was it. All winter I ran the jeep with the AC compressor relay removed so it would not kick on with the defrost. But the fan would then turn on anyway. So I knew that it was not broken. It might be worth a shot try removing to relay for the compressor in the Power Distribution Box under the hood and turn the air or the defrosters on.
Welcome to the forum these guys here are a great help.

I have a 91 and you need to see if the fan works at all. I would run a hot wire to the fan connector from the battery and see if the fan runs. just because it is new doesn't mean it works. 2nd, the littlest relay ( the one on the top left of the relay box under the hood) is the aux fan relay, make sure it is good, you can also pull the relay and jump 2 contacts ( check the diagram on the relay, I don't recall which pins they are.) together in the relay socket to make the fan come on. I tried this and my fan would not work, I had a broken wire that ran from the relay over to the fan, I replaced the wire and everything is good now, so check your fan first with a hot wire from the battery, if it is good, it is probably the wire that runs from the relay to the fan. good luck.

any particular place the wire likes to break? looking at the wiring harness it looks like its going to be a royal pain in the *** to find the break

As was noted above, the fan does NOT automatically come on when you turn on the AC in the 2000 and 2001 XJs. This was a change in design for the 2000 model year that does not apply to earlier models. The AC only calls the fan when the dual function pressure switch in the AC system senses high enough pressure. From the factory service manual:
Electric cooling fan 4.0L: With or without A/C request the electric fan will come on only when the coolant temperature is at least 106° C (223° F), and will remain on until the coolant temperature drops to 103° C (217° F) or below. Regardless of coolant temperature, when air conditioning system pressures reach 2068.5 kPa (300 psi) the electric fan will engage and continue to run until the A/C system pressure drops to 1620.3 kPa (235 psi) minimum, then the electric fan will shut off.
CCKen posted some excellent information about this system in the thread below, including how to jump the connectors on the dual function pressure switch to test its operation. You really should start here:

Default broken wire

in my 91, the wire was broken behind the front left head light area, the wire ran from the relay box to that location than along the body frame to the fan connector.
