R main seal...not! little assist needed
Ok so when I picked up my new wife (90 XJ Ltd) I was a little hesitant to just dive in, two different mechanics told me the rear main was leaking (initial inspections). After doing a bit of engine overhaul myself, I went ahead and took a look for myself. Seemed to be a combination of the pan plug and filter adaptor, I replaced the plug + washer and would love to do the adaptor today. Question is, do I have to drain the oil? No parts stores open today, and it seems like it should be ok if I let the system drain back to the pan, but I don't want to find out I'm wrong....messy. oil only has only been in for a couple hundred miles. Rear main seal....pshaww.

eh even if it is the rear main they are so incredibly easy to replace. you do have to remove a crankshaft main journal cap though was lil iffy on that.

Got that gasket, (and new pan, and pump) Its a bit messy under there, but I really believe the two seals I mentioned are the culprits, if not I am loaded for bear. Thanks!
