Red face Quick Valve Cover Gasket Question

I have a Felpro Rubber valve cover gasket, and I'm going to put it in this weekend. Do I use RTV sealant on the rubber ones too or just the cork ones?

I've got the RTV ready to use so that's not an issue.

Also, while I'm here.. what are the inch pound torque measurements for the valve cover on a rubber gasket?

85 in lbs huh? I'll check around for a manual soon so I can handle more of these myself.

Thanks for the info... while you are here.. do you recommend RTV or Gaskets for diff covers?

Just FYI, 85 in/lbs is roughly 7 ft/lbs, which is lower than a ft/lb torque wrench will go. I've done several of these, and just went snug with a 1/4" drive ratchet.

And I just use RTV for diff covers.

That should about do it, but be sure you have the right sequence when torquing down.

So you just used a normal ratchet? I'm afraid I'll overtighten it, how can I tell without a torque wrench?

Can't help you with that....go HF and get a cheapass torque wrench.

Get it good finger tight, and go about 1/4 turn with a ratchet past that. That's about as good as I can explain it.

Hold the head of the ratchet in the palm of your hand and only used the strength of your wrist to tighten the bolts.
