Quick Transfer case fluid question
99 XJ 4-door 4.0L AW4 Trans. 4wd
Question.
I looked up in my OEM owners manual and it states the following:
For the AW4 automatic trans. it recommends - Mopar ATF or labeled Dexron II (2) or Mercon
For the Transfer case it recommends - Mopar ATF or labeled Dexron III (3) or Mercon
Seemed odd to me that it lists Mopar ATF on both...but for non-Mopar brand it doesn't list the same one. What gives? Which one is correct for the transmission and which one is correct for the Transfer case?
Thanks!

I followed my shop manual (Sec 1-2: Recommended lubricants and fluids) and put Mercon ATF in both my transfer case and my AW4 Transmission. Dexron I or II may also be used in the transfer case as well

Cool... thanks for the input everyone. I wanted to make sure I picked up the correct yet most cost effective type for both.
The XJ has only seen a couple actual winters with snow/ice since the last time both the trans and transfer case were serviced with fluids.... but will still hit all those drain plugs with a bit of penetrating oil for a day or 2 before attempting, just to be safe.
