The t case I put in was a junkyard case so I'm gonna change the cheapo ATF I put in it to get any metal and stuff that was there out. I've been told gear oil will actually be a better fluid to put in. Something like 75w-140. I was wondering if anyone else had heard about this and done it? I know the manual calls for ATF, just wanted to see what you guys thought. My basic question is ATF +4 or gear oil?
Thanks,
Nick

When I installed my SYE, I just ran ATF +4 from PepBoys. I've heard about using Gear Oil, but I'm one of those guys that usually run what is recomended.

Thanks man. I'll just run ATF then. I thought it was a little weird when I drained the old not working case it had a gear oil like fluid in it. In gonna ease my mind and say it failed because that wasnt tranny fluid.

When New Process Gear first made their transfer cases, they recommended Dextron 2. I had an 89 Chevy truck with a new process case in it and I used Dextron. My Haynes Repair manual says for Selectrac use Mopar ATF +4. For Quatratrac use Mopar Transfer Case Fliud or equiv. (whatever that is)
Either way, I would not use gear oil. The last time I saw 75w-90 used in a transfer case was an old 74 Chevy with the Borg Warner transfer case. That had a power takeoff for a winch. That was also a standard transmission. Wait. I think the PTO was on the trans. Whatever.
I don't think there is a pump in the T-case. I think the chain lubricates the whole thing.

In the Navy, my ship used Boston as home port. I've spent many hours in town and at Nantasket Beach. Is it still there? Lots of bars and fights on the south side. Quincy Market was a blast. Lots of college kids hung out there.
