Default Quick roof rack question?

89 XJ auto 4.0 4x4 114,000 miles.

Anybody running a roof rack on the stock cross bars?
Was looking to get a cheap roof rack and using the stock bars if possible. All the roof rack would currently have on it would be a 235/75 tire.

So anybody running a roof rack with the stock bars and does what I want to carry sound ok weight wise and all? Thank you.

I am, but it is a discontinued Jeep part. Be careful sourcing these because some of the hardware, like the parts labeled #4, is impossible to find if it is not with the thing.

Ok That is pretty cool. I was going to have a roof rack or basket up there and secured to the stock cross bars with the 4 clamps that come with it.

I guess I could get a roof basket and the thing you posted because that is cool, at least to me.

Either my question is stupid or nobody is running a roof rack/basket on the stock bars...haha.

Well after 5.5 years I finally added a roof rack to the Jeep with 115,000 miles on it. Wish it was still the 78,000 when I got it.

I was able to get my MegaWarrior clamped down with the same clamps you are using:

Seems to be solid enough. I keep my spare tire up there and will probably load it up bulky, lighter things when I'm wheeling. maybe add a mount for a shovel and HiLift...

If I can get my hands on another set of luggage bars I may add them underneath the basket. More support couldn't hurt.

Looks nice, man. I'd rather have a full length like yours but it was one of those sort of 'get what I can with what I have situations'. I'd like a rear tire carrier but I'm just going to use the roof rack for now too. Yeah I plan on adding another bar under mine and another at the front of my jeep because it looks strange with out one now to me. And probably put a couple lights up top finally.

I have been really slow to do any accessory adding. Need to take care of suspension stuff that is not quite right but not 100% sure what it all is. Definitely got to re-do my trans mount, maybe axle u-joints, and then go from there. Not about to put even a 2" lift on it until I have all that stuff addressed.

Also wanting to pick up some turbine rims for it because they just look cool. I currently have two set of stock rims. The ones on it and the rally stocks. If I can't find the turbines I might switch to the rally's I have.

Edit: I wonder if mine will look better more in the center? I may find out tomorrow haha.

Thanks man. I didn't plan on getting the basket so soon, this basket is probably the last thing this XJ needs right now lol But for the price I paid, I couldn't help but allow it to follow me home. Plus it barely fits. I had to move it almost all of the way forward on the roof so the back hatch would clear when it was open.
Currently keeping my eye out for another set of rims as well. I have some generic stock steelies that I want to be just for winter tires and get some other ones for summer ATs. But all that is in the future. I have a bunch of steering, suspension and electrical work to do before then to make her reliable. All in due time ( I hope lol )

Electrical and suspension for me too haha. Got to spend the money on that first.
