Default dumb stock luggage rack question

i have an 01 xj and HATE the half rack on there so would it fit if i was to take one off of the older style with the full rack on it?

the reason is i am building my own roof rack and i was gunna add 2 more of the cross bars and mount the roof rack to that, but the dumb half legnth rack limits the size of roof rack i could build, and fit.

(i said rack a lot )

The older XJ's do have some really nice racks. Newer ones are like a cups, there isn't much you can do with them.

Much like the larger racks, you can see them, they are there, but they might not be that great, at least you can still do stuff with them.

i put a older stock rack on a 92 xj i had. i had to drill holes through the roof to bolt it down but i imagine you'd have to do the same with yours. i'd like to also put a longer stock rack on my 99 but im sure you'd have to drill new bolt holes... and im still not sure it would fit just right... but idk for sure. if i had one i would try it...

Why not just take the stock rack off all together and get gutter mounts for a rack when you put it on? I would much prefer this over drilling through your roof and possibly creating another place to leak and rust.

PS: I've been stalking you... lol

that same style rack is available mid 90's in full length. you will have to drill 2 more holes each side in the roof, and get 4 more of those rubber gromet collapsing nut deals

I also have an 01' xj. I tried to bolt on a full length stock rack from a 96' but like someone else said, the bolt holes didn't line up at all. I opted against drilling new holes

I thought that was you... Don't you drive the yellow one to JCC? If you're driving the green one, I may have been parking next to you a bunch of times and not realizing. lol!!!
