Default quick question on rewelding driver's door

My driver's door is going to fall off. The welds are separating from the vertical support on the frame.

I know the only way to fix it correctly is to remove the door and reweld it all. However I have no idea if there is wiring behind that area that needs to be moved before this repair is started.

I have to fix this issue in the next couple of weeks. The door started to sag a lot more today and I know it's going to fall off soon.

I see there's a TSB on this issue. Does the dealer help at all in this case or is it a thing that I would want to take to a body shop so that I can afford the repair?

i paid a welder 30 bucks to weld it back on. first i took off the front fender (easy task) and then took it over to the shop. told him i wanted it welded back on and he didt it for $30! the door does not need to be removed to do it. or you can do it yourself, but be advised, you are welding steel to galvanized steel...so make the necessary adjustments on your gas mig welder

My '94 had the same problem. I didn't even try to fix the factory welds, just welded straight down the bracket. Helped tighten it up a bit too. Didn't have any problems with wires. Sorry I don't have that Jeep anymore or I would take a photo.

so neither of you two had to mess with any wiring harness? not even the part for the door locks/speakers? That's good to know. I wonder if I'll be able to fix it without removing the door? Mine is peeling outward so i'd have to bend it all back flat to close the gap at the top of the door.

thanks for the responses!
I've heard about the doors falling off so I definitely need to fix it before it goes that far.

I'm stopping at a couple of body shops tomorrow. Hopefully it holds up till then

I cranked the welder up and burned right through the paint, down the backside of the attaching bracket straight on to the body metal in the door jam. Only thing that got a little melted was the weather strip at the bottom of the door cuz all the sparks fell on it and I didn't cover it.

So I called and talked to the local jeep dealership and it turns out that I happened to know somebody in the body shop who is going to hook me up. They are doing the weld repair work for 100 bucks (normal cost 300 something). Unfortunately also my stop bar/chin strap thing that keeps the door from opening too far was broken as well and it costs about 85 dollars. So they are tossing that on for me as well. It all goes down monday. Lets hope the door doesn't fall off in the interim. ha.

door's fixed finally. I've owned the jeep 2 years and have not ever had a quiet ride because all the wind noise coming in the gap up top. Now that that is fixed it is so nice to drive.

total cost about 200 after taxes (85 in parts, 100 labor, 15 tax). Stupid broken bar thing doubled my budget. But at least my door wont open too far anymore.
