Default Questions about 31 or 32 tires on 4.5 Lift

i plan on getting some 15x8 black cragar soft 8s and im still not sure if i wanna do 31s or 32s...this is gonna be a DD and occasional play around wheeler, also what are the thoughts about the stock d30 and d35 handling this with a 4.5 lift, also with 31s and 32s will the gear ratio be that much a difference i got the aisin warner ax-15 5 speed right now with 235s and it feels pretty fast and will smoke em 1st and 2nd easy, would it be nessesary to regear to give it that lossed power back and what ratio would that be? 3.07 is stock isnt it? thanks!

Yes the stock ratio is 3.07 going 32s would be the minimum tire size I'd want at 4.5" of lift. 33s would be a much smarter idea. If you get 32s or 33s regearing needs to become a serious consideration and getting rid of the POS D35 thats in the rear. For the rear axel, I'd look into either getting a 29 spline Chryco 8.25 and matching front D30(unless you're going to be regearing) or get a D44 out of an older XJ and the front D30 with matching ratios unless you're doing a full regear on both.

damn i might have to settle with a 3 inch lift then...i really wasnt wanting to have to regear or make/buy stronger axles at least not any time soon, ive seen a few pics of cherokees with 4.5 lift and 31s and some dont look to bad with the right tires...i want some pretty aggresive tires so it shouldnt look bad, plus with 31s i shouldnt have to cut anything this is just gonna be a DD and fun play wheeler, i still wanna burn ricers on the street lol.

yea i dont see what the big problem is, 31s on 4.5 should be fine i would think and it looks pretty good heres a comparison of what mine looks like and what it would look like 90% accuracy almost exact jeep and exact lift with some BFG ATs which im considering...

I have a 4.5 with 31s and love it. Tons of flex and no need to regear. If I went to 32s or 33s I would def want to regear. I still rub a little with 31s and had to trim a bit. I say go for it. The height gives you a little extra clearance and the 31s will go a LOT of places if you get some good MT's.

33s will rip off the fender flares and damage the fenders. 32s are as big as you should go. i just put on 31s and they have been fine and look good too. sooo i guess unless you want to cut your fenders 32s are whats up. no re gearing for me either. youll be fine.

Im not gonna lie, I would probably like to go with 33's eventually, but that will be down the road after armor and gears and then lots of trimming will be in order. For now the 31's are more capable than me right now and it gets me on the trail for a lot less $$.
