Question on hood release

Are the hood release universal for all years of cherokees? I have a '97 and '89 both of the hood releases are broken, I found some at the junk yard but not the same years. Just was wondering.

if your 89 latches look like your 97 latches then yes... if there broke then you should still be able to tell if there the same?
