So I ended up getting the white gauge cluster light pack from OneWayLight. The turn signals, side markers, license plate, 3rd brake light, reverse, brake, and rear turn signals I used Ralph77's thread and got most of it from AdvancedAutoParts. License Plate LED came off eBay same link Ralph77 provided. Side markers came from SuperBrightLED, but *not* the ones in their Vehicle Finder because those are too long and push up on the lens. I ordered the ones Ralph77 also suggested. So in summary listen to what Ralph77 says in his thread and it will save you a lot of time. Originally I decided I could just do it on my own using SuperBrightLED's Vehicle Finder and nearly all of those lights ended up getting sent back and I followed his thread instead. Ended up with a better end-product IMO.

Oh, the only thing I did different from Ralph77 was that I got the LED flasher from AdvancedAutoParts instead of NAPA. It's really easy to find. I did that instead because I got $20 off using the SpeedPerks feature. His thread is indispensable for someone trying to tackle this. It will definitely save you a few trips to the Post Office making returns.

I am glad all that worked out for you. That thing with the side markers definitely made what you would think would be an easy project go pear shaped.

And while I did get a lot out of that video I posted in the thread I was seriously considering registering with YouTube just so I could post a comment about him not being as thorough as he could have been.

As far the flasher goes I work at Napa so I get a discount. Which pretty much makes it the same price as any other auto parts store even when using the promo codes that are always around. Of course using your SpeedPerks changed all that.

I will be the first to admit Napa can be pricey. But don't assume that always. Sometimes I am surprised at the pricing at Napa compared to other auto parts chains even when using a promo code. Once in awhile Napa is still cheaper on a particular item.

Also in this instance an LED flasher is an LED flasher.

But I have a little theory. You did something, it worked out well for you and came out great, I like the idea and want to do it myself, so I want to use exactly what you used to hopefully achieve a similar outcome.
Sometimes I think it matters. Not with an LED flasher of course though.

That is why when people do things I wish they would post links more often. I can't tell you how many times I have had to ask what did you specifically use.
Inquiring minds want to know. LOL.

Oh exactly. Posting the links or at least accurately describing what you did is what makes this forum indispensable. Me and a friend are going to start making videos because as you stated for many of them the detail just isn't there.

Those 3157's from Advanced are really good. I was surprised. They look really weird. Much different than the ones SuperBrightLED sells, but they are better quality. Everyone of the 3157's from Advanced looked exactly the same and they're made to be the same size as the regular bulb they're replacing. When you compare the LEDs from SuperBrightLED everyone looks different. Some are slightly longer than others the quality control just isn't there. Actually, I should correct something I said in the previous post. I kept 2 of the ones from SuperBrightLED and put one in my dome light and one (red) in my 3rd brake light. Those were 2 from the Vehicle Finder that were actually correct. I'm sooo glad I didn't try to order the gauge lights from there. That would have been a headache.

Thinking the cheaper ones like in the video, which I said you could buy at Walmart, would have been fine too. But I scoffed all those bulbs from Ebay and pretty much paid the Walmart cheaper Sylvania bulb price for what is supposed to be a better bulb. But is it really? LOL.

I see that you did gauge lights from onewaylight. I see where you said you did the dome light but did you do the rest of your interior lights? Map, footwell, rear cargo, and vanity mirrors assuming you have them? Cause if you did not and have not purchased them this is also where you should use onewaylight.

I'm not even sure what a "map light" is. I just have 1 dome light. There is no rear cargo. I assume that is because I have a 2 door? I don't have vanity mirrors either. Where is the footwell light? I don't think I have those. I've tried looking and never found it. Where would they be? Basically that is why I didn't get that interior kit. Because I either obviously didn't have it or couldn't find it like the footwells. What year is your XJ? Where were the footwells? Do all XJs have them? I have a 1999 2 door. Mine is all manual too. I think it's the most minimal and the least bells and whistles.

The map lights are the 2 smaller ones on each side.

https://www.ebay.com/i/381617437883?chn=ps

You push to turn on each individually.
2 doors don't have a cargo bay light?

https://www.ebay.com/i/202684472911?chn=ps

Never occurred to me that they would not.
Mine is a '00.
So there are no mirrors in your visors?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/97-01-JEEP-...ally+Aspirated

Did not even think they came that way on '97 and up.

Under the dash on both left and right. Right up front. Look at Post #6 here. Lousy shot but only picture I could find quickly.

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/und...000-xj-150861/

I could see you not having the vanity mirrors if it is a lower end one I guess.
The cargo bay light I am guessing is a 2 door thing.
But you should have map lights in the dome light and the footwell ones.

Nah, there aren't mirrors on either of my visors. I don't have the map or cargo lights either. I'm going to go look for the footwell lights again, but I'm pretty sure they don't exist. If there are plugs though I might install them.

I need to try to fight the absolutely brighest light possible for my dome light. The light I have in there right now is the LED that SuperBrightLEDs has listed for the 1999 Jeep Cherokee Map Light. It's the style bulb where both leads are on one end. It's not the cylinder style with leads on each end of the cylinder. Because I have such few lights inside I want to find a super bright LED that lights up the inside like a UFO, lol. It's hard to find things because I own a lot of black stuff and the interior is Agate so when there is no light it's just like a sea of black at night.

Have you ever seen some kind of mountable LED lamp? I want to put some kind of lights in the back that function like a push-button cargo lamp. I'm sure it exists, but I'm wondering if you know of anything good off hand.

Show a picture of your dome light. I want to see this. Not going to lie very confused.
Cargo bay one does confuse me also but being a 2 door......
No mirrors. OK.
Footwell seems strange though. So I know it is a little harness with the light on it connected to the big dash harness. Cause I have seen pictures on Ebay of the little harness.
As a matter of fact here is a pair for sale:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Under-Dash-....c100005.m1851

Do notice that one of them is missing that cover. To be frank it just ends up getting burn marks from the light in it and discolored cutting down on the light. Betting you could run without it.
My point being is I wonder if the dash harness in your Jeep has open connectors for these to hook up to.
Again assuming you really don't have any which does seem odd to me. But what do I know? LOL.

I tried getting pictures under the dash, but they didn't come out good. Think I am just going to get a couple of these: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...v+SMD+panel+48
Put one in my dome light, and one on each side where your feet go.

Wonder why they would not just put in the normal (4 door?) one in a 2 door. I don't see the sense in them making 2 different types.
I look at a lot of pictures of Jeeps. Guessing I have looked at interior shots of 2 door ones. Wondering why I never even noticed that there is no cargo bay light and the dome light is different. LOL.

I haven't figured that out yet. I am wondering if it has to do with the fact that this Cherokee used to be a federal forestry service vehicle. Maybe they sell super minimal ones to the feds? I'm not sure how those type of contracts and whatnot work.

I must have missed the part where you said it is a former Forestry Service Vehicle. Could explain a few things.
I say look to see if there are unused connectors under the dash on either side more towards the seats. Might be able to add those footwell lights.

Hey whenever you installed the LED flasher before you had LED gauge lights did you have your turn signal indicators permanently on whenever you turned on the head lights? I could just be imagining things, but I'm pretty sure this started after I installed the LED flasher. I'm thinking if I change those indicators to LED it will likely return to normal.

My turn signal indicators did glow when I turned on my headlights. Not bright like when using your turn signals but visible none the less. But this happened when I had LED's in all the turn signal lights but the side markers, using the regular 194's in the side markers, and had the LED flasher in. Remember I had that issue with the Sylvania 194 LED's cause of the polarity. So I had to roll with regular 194's for awhile till I figured out what to do. As soon as I put in those non polarity 194 LED's they stopped glowing.

At first I thought it was the flasher. And it was a thing you had to live with. Turns out it was just using regular 194's with everything for LED's every where else.

Do you have a trailer hitch and wiring in your Jeep? Cause I have read threads where guys with trailer hitch wiring have experienced weird things when trying to install LED's.

I haven't installed the LED side markers yet. That must be the problem. Makes sense. If that fixes it I will reply here so other people can see.

Quick Reply: Question about replacement LED bulbs.
