So I'm going through www.superbrightled.com and buying all new bulbs for my 1999 2-door XJ. I am stumped on a couple things and figured you folks could probably help me out.

When I try to pick out a bunch of the different bulbs I keep seeing this: "Some vehicles require special SCK (SRCK=Red, SACK=Amber) Bulbs." What does this mean? And how do I know if mine does or does not require SCK bulbs?

Also for some of the bulbs it says: "Newer vehicle electrical systems may require a CAN Bus bulb for operation." I do not have an owners manual. How do I know if mine does or doesn't require CAN Bus bulbs?

I used bog-standard LEDs from ebay when I installed dash and interior LEDs in my '99. (The XJ really doesn't qualify as a newer vehicle these days. )

 

I will check that out. Do you know how I figure out if I need SCK bulbs or not? Can I pull some bulbs and look? The few bulbs I've pulled and looked didn't have the sides marked - or +. I don't want to buy a bunch of bulbs only for them to be for the wrong type of circuit.

 

All I can really tell you is mine are just regular LEDs, nothing special, and they work fine. The only issue installing them was making sure polarity was correct.

 

What are you buying bulbs for? Interior? Exterior? Dash lights? Check this place out.

I use the interior set up from onewaylight. I wished I realized that they sold sets for the blinkers and whatnot too
before I drove myself nuts piecing together everything I used in that thread. But for the most part what I used
can be sourced locally if you need a replacement quick.

 

I was going to replace every single bulb with LED. I think they will probably look better. Reading this thread now. Thank you.

 

You won't need Canbus bulbs but you will need an LED compatible indicator relay.

I'm not sure what the SCK stands for but don't forget if you have any clear lens', you may need a coloured bulb such as front indicator.

 

Superbright recommends bulbs of the same color as the lens anyway so that the emitted light is true color. You can use LEDs to replace any bulb that's not on a flasher or monitored by a "bulb out" system. What's tricky is the turn signals. The front signals involve the side marker lights as well.

I made the mistake of using green LEDs in my instrument cluster. They looked cool, but all the red markings and the needles either disappeared or turned mud brown. Not cool!

The instrument pack at OneWayLight though doesn't have:

• Warning lamps are not replaced (check engine, temp, 4x4, low coolant, etc).
• Defrost and fog lamp "on" indicators are not replaced.

I'm real OCD and want to replace every single bulb.

Because the LED's use so much less power, they don't use enough to keep the relay's pulled in. Therefore you need to add a current increasing resistor or an LED compatible relay, if there is such a thing for what you are doing.

I didn't on my XJ, MJ, or both my Alfa Romeos, but the 98 Grand Cherokee blinks really fast and obnoxious. I kinda like it.
