4 Hi is akin to AWD and can be used in any application.
Part Time 4 is an off road/foul weather only application that sends power to wheels as needed.
4 Lo is what it sounds like.

2 HI is 2 wheel drive and usually only one wheel has power unless you have limited slip or a locker in the rear differential.

4 HI full time is 4 wheel drive and you can use that selection on wet roads. That will put power to the rear and the front and usually its only one front and one rear wheel that has power unless you have lockers.

4 HI part time is for gravel roads or compleatly cover with ice and snow. it puts power to the front and rear wheels but only one of each unless you have limited slip or lockers.

4 LO part time is the same as 4 Hi part time but lowers the gear ratio so you have more torque.

Your only going to get power to one front and one rear tire unless you have lockers or limited slip in your differentials.

hope that help
