Hey guys, I bought a 1996 jeep xj that had its a/c deleted and im trying to get all of the ac lines to have a working a/c. Would you guys know of a site or store that'll sell all of the lines becuase all i see are 97-01 lines on auto parts stores. Also would anybody have the diagram for the a/c lines, thanks very much.

 

Did you try RockAuto.com? I got all my A/C parts from there for my 95.

What's left of the system? (Or in other words, how did they do the delete - everything removed or just the compressor?)

 

If he doesn't chime in, you might try PM'ing Jordan96XJ - he did a lot of A/C work on his 96 and he's a very knowledgeable and helpful guy.

The difficulty with a 96 is that it's a transition year, so depending on when the Jeep rolled off the assembly line, it might be more like a 97 or more like a 95.

 

Hey, thanks for the response the delete was basically a bypass pulley with all of the hoses and compressor removed, but the condenser, drier, and evaporator are still in the car.

 

Looking at Rock Auto, it appears that the 96 used the same A/C setup as the 95 - threaded fittings. Rock auto has the hoses. Let me know if you want a picture of my 95's A/C system (which is blowing nice and cold now that the weather in N.E. is roughly 70F.. lolol).

There are 4 lines:

Condensor (top) to Compressor (HP)
Condensor (bottom) to R/D
R/D to expansion valve
Expansion valve to Compressor (LP)

I replaced all the lines except for the R/D to expansion valve. I went with the cheapest option at Rock Auto - the only complaint I had was the LP line was longer and hence bends more sharply than I'd like. The original line had a nice gentle curve - but the Schrader valve leaked. I kept the line in case, but so far it works great.

As of 4 months ago I knew literally nothing about auto A/C. With a lot of help from the excellent members of this forum (especially Bugout4x4 and Rambler65) I went from there to having working A/C that I did entirely myself. My own A/C project was as much for building my own knowledge as it was getting a working A/C, but it's nice to have it working and I didn't spend a ton of money. Therefore I entirely credit this forum and the other guys and gals on here and am glad to give back whatever piddling knowledge and advice that I can provide.

 

You are too kind. YOU are in fact the one to ask on this one! The majority of my AC work (and learning) was on the vehicle that my XJ replaced. So I haven't actually had to do much with the XJ AC system specifically (yet).
