Default Put ZJ clutch fan in a XJ to keep cooler (it worked). Photos.

I did the fan clutch conversion. I put in the ZJ Hayden 2737 for $36 @ O'Rilley Auto.

As you can see it's much bigger. I also took at pic. It is approx 85*. This is with a/c on after a trip around our town and now sitting for 10min.

I also did the 180* stat and I drilled one 1/8" hole on the side to allow for more coolant flow. As you can see it works!

If you think the loud roar from the fan will attrack "black helicopters", don't do it. You can hear it. But, a/c is colder now, engine is cooler. Win-win!

Any questions, ask away.

I tried this install with a HD #2737 and the studs were like 1/8" too long and I couldn't get the thing on. I would have needed to tilt the radiator forward to get clearance to install it. Once installed there would be enough clearance. Went back to stock until another day.

How did you get clearance?

Fit right on without issue. Maybe take a pic for more detail on the problem area? I took shroud off, then removed 4 bolts and removed the fan and clutch. Then removed 4 bolts and took fan off clutch, then reverse and put it back together. I am by far a shade tree mechanic. If I can do "something" others can too. lol! Maybe fan was on backwards? Studs from motor or studs that go into clutch?

Ill post some pics tonight maybe that will help?

Will-do. It's teh heavy duty not the severe duty. I assume not much. Although, it's a toy and not a daily driver, so I wasn't concerned.

Could be radiator has somehow shifted backwards or motor mounts have allowed motor to shift foreward. Correct length studs?

Looks good to me. My Last Jeep (YJ) I did this too, it looked the same. I used some lock tight and called it. Had it for 3 yrs.

The XJ looks the same. Pics in a second.

Yep just like the pictures. The HD fan clutch has the fins in the front and they hit the radiator before I can get the mounting flange over the studs. Could be either radiator shifted back a hair (1/8") or the motor mounts are just a bit off and the motor is forward a bit. I will try again when I have more time and patience.

I rotated mine and it moved freely. I didn't hear it hit the radiator. I will double check. Keep me posted.

Now that I think about it, I think that previously mine was lightly hit on the passenger front corner. That could account for the 1/8" clearance that I am missing.

I checked for you. You must have a bigger radiator. Mine isn't even close to it. It's about 1/2" from it.

We were able to get this bad boy on without any clearance issues but it was way too noisy so off it came and went back with stock type.

Negative on the 272310. It's off a Caprice 9C1 cop car as an experiment. Still not sure about trying the bigger/noisy ZJ clutch.

Is there a write up / thread on these mods? I'm trying to find one but can't seem to.
