Default pulling motor...grrrrr

Trying to pull a engine out of my 98. I couldn't get the last two bolt out of the top of the bell. I pulled every thing with the motor. Trans, drive, engine, every thing at once. WHAT A PAIN. I want to do it right. Any one have advise on rebuilding a trans. I buy a new motor, but I want to make sure the trans last. I got it out might as well upgrade it right?

Rebuilding transmission are expensive, as much as rebuilding a motor. What's wrong with the tranny? The AW4 is a pretty strong transmission usually not requiring much more than a fluid change or maybe a selinoid replaced.

And bands,
And clutch disc's....

AW4's are stout but if they've got high miles a rebuild might be in order.

Do this if you want it done, also rebuild the t-case if your up to it your going all out with a new motor might as well do it all right. and if it only takes a refresh on the tranny and t-case it wont be even as close as the price of a total rebuild would cost. ( some people just can't figure this stuff out) good luck

pesonally, i dont agree, if he aint the 1 and only owner, the PO may not have takin care of it and it may seem alright, but there might be all sorts of stuff wrong with it and could need to be rebuilt anyways

Did you have the same trouble I'm having? See: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/dis...roblem-110907/

Is this a new motor, or just a new to you motor? Did you build it or did it come preassembled?

I got the engine in time but im still getting backfire thru intake. I found a leak in my #5 injector and it has been fixed. Still throwing codes P0705, P1695, and P1394. Can't get it to go pass 2000rpm without backfiring. What am I missing

Sounds like you need to index the distributor.

give details about how you indexed it. did you put a pin in the cam positioning sensor through the distributor body, line up the rotor with #1 spark plug, and have the HB on 0* TDC on compression stroke while you installed the distributor? did it line up perfectly with the mounting hole in the block when you did this?

When I put the rebuilt 4.2 back in my CJ I stayed up 24-hours straight getting it all put back together. I then spent another two frustrating hours trying to time it and make it run correctly. I was not in a good place so my buddies made my go get some sleep. The next day, after looking closely at the photos I had taken of the engine prior to removal, I realized I had installed the distributer 180-degrees out of phaze. I'm still amazed we were able to fire the thing up at all.

Take a break then go back look at everything carefully. It could be as simple as a missed vacuum or electrical connection.
