Pulling Gears
I think I can get my hands on some 4.10s for my XJ from a 4 banger jeep. Are there any special tools I need? I have never removed gears before, can cannot find any articles on removing them is there anything I should know? The most I have done with differentials is change shafts.

removing them isn't too hard. i can't remember the pinion nut off hand, its a big socket, otherwise, pop the cover, pop the shafts, 4 bolts on the carrier, pry the carrier out, and then pop the pinion out. if you are removing the ring gear from the carrier they are usually reverse thread.
installing gears requires special tools, and a bit of knowledge.

I plan on getting them installed by someone who knows what they are doing, but want to save cash on the gears.

to remove the pinion gear, it takes a little force to push it into the diff towards the cover. you do not want to hit the threads with a hammer. you can leave the nut on flush with the end of the gear and tap that, but a punch will work. put a punch in the center, theres a little hole there, and hit it with a hammer and it will fall through the back of the axle.

Can you get the entire axles with the 4.10's in them? If so I would just get both axles, swap yours out for those, then resell your axle. Then everything is guaranteed to be set up correctly and you can make a little money back.

good point, paying to have axles set up isn't cheap, and there's shops that will do it, and doesn't mean they have the tools and ability to do it.
its not hard to swap the whole axle over.

I would but I am not that strong!
This is at a pick it yard and they have a day where you pay 50 bucks and you can take as much as you can carry out. I am hoping to find a 4 cylinder jeep there.
Since I am going for various other JY stuffy anyways I thought it might not hurt to be prepared just in case.
