I had a leak coming from what I thought was the pitman arm connection on the ps gearbox... So I replaced the gearbox, and the hoses, and the leak is still there
Yea... i should've dye tested it BEFORE buying/replacing the 130.00 gearbox, but i didnt and wont have time to for the next few days so bounce some ideas off me here...
My next thought is the pump, maybe the reservoir. but the leak is so splattered, so widespread that it covers the front axle, tie rod, linkage, and all drips off pitman arm or rods depending on how she's parked.
Soo frustrating! I've searched the posts here but needs some fresh perspective... Gotta be the pump/reservoir right? Love these XJ's but damn do these leaks drive me nuts

OUCH! Yea I saw your post before I think...On my 84/2.5L the high pressure line to the back of the pump likes to leak. I sort'a tightened it. It's easy, I do it all the time! Goes all over. O,well, the cheap dextron 3 isn't killing me, just the grass.

Okay... so it gets crazier, the fluid is REDISH its not PS fluid, but the only trans component that runs up near that gearbox is the cooler line which isnt leaking... any ideas???

check that trans line again. i had to replace one of mine cause it shifted out of position and the crank pulley wore a hole through the metel line. just a pin hole, but i was loosing fluid like i cut a jugular. luckly i caught it before my tranny burn up. added a temp gauge to keep an eye on it now.

You might want to check and be sure the fluid in your resavor is not red. Mine is.

I just got done replacing my pump to gear pressure hose. It had a SMALL pin hole in it and would squirt fluid everywhere. but the location of the hole you couldnt see the fluid coming out. Replaced that line and now it doesnt leak a drop.

I didnt truly understand how the cooler worked in relation to the radiatior... anyways...
Whats the best way to access that cooler? pop the grill off? the only line i can trace comes in below the lower rad hose, and its not showing any uv dye... is the one i can see the sending hose or the return?
thanks for the advice... and patience...
