Default Progamming new key FOB - 2001 sport

Hello everyone,

I broke my key FOB and i need to get a replacement. Any idea how I can program myself. I found some ways to do it for a grand cherokee. Not sure if its the same. My locks are kind of messed up anyway so the FOB works the best for me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm fairly sure that being OBD-II it has to be done by a dealer. I'm gonna keep my eyes on this thread though, cause I'm curious.

I don't have the OEM set up like yours but from everything I had read they do have to be programmed from the dealer as Dan91 has mentioned.

Yeah...i've been calling around. The guy at the dealership said I would not be able to do it myself. The dealership wanted to charge $80 for the FOB and another $80 to program it.

I called an Auto locksmith and they said they would program it for $30 and I just ordered an OEM FOB off ebay for $20. They also said I could not program it myself.

This might be the cheapest way to go if anyone else is looking to do the same thing.

Faced with the same predicament I said screw it and ordered a remote start / keyless entry with two new remotes for less than buying one remote and getting it programmed.
