Default Problem solved. I thought

Couple weeks ago I posted a couple questions on my new to me 107K mile 95 Cherokee Sport. One was about a "stumble" coming off idle. I was thinking bad gas due to it having sat for an extended period of time. Ran a tank of Shell 93 octane and the problem went away. I thought. Wednesday I left for a 1400 mile round trip and all went well. Until it didn't. Thursday morning it cranked up but ran like crap, wouldn't shift just barely able to stay running, check engine light on. Limped to a shop 2 miles away and got an actual mechanic to look at it. Being pre OBD II they had nothing to check it with so it was back to old school checking. Ended up replacing the TPS, cleaning the throttle body and Idle air control(as had been recommended previously) and all was well. Mostly. Still having what I think are issues with the engine temp. Cruising at freeway speed. 75 mph (equates to 2500 rpm with the gears I have) the temp is going to around 220-225. Slowing down to 65 mph, just over 2K rpm, the temp comes back down to190- 200 or so.The electric fan on the drivers side seems to be working correctly as is the other fan in front of the AC compressor. I'm going to try replacing the thermostat but wondering on any thoughts about maybe the water pump? Coolant looks to be pretty fresh, has new upper and lower hoses so I think I'm ok there even though I won't be reusing the coolant.Other than this issue I really like the Cherokee, other than there are NO cup holders.

Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated as this is my first go around with these inline 4.0's. If it matters, this one is listed as the High Output, 150 hp version.

TPS would have been my first guess once you said shifting issues. They're real easy to kill with a pressure washer. For future reference, you can pull the codes on a 1995 with the key on/off trick. https://www.quadratec.com/c/referenc...iagnostic-code.

Cooling could be a number of things. If it's holding at 200 at slower speeds, I wouldn't suspect the thermostat. Does it still have the fan shroud? Is the fan clutch working? With the engine hot and key-off, try to give it a spin by hand and it should stop within 1-1/2 turns. It should be noticeably stiffer than when cold. Is the torque converter locking up correctly? Lightly tap the brake pedal with your left foot while you're cruising on the freeway and you should see it just a few hundred rpm. If that's not locking up, that can add a lot of heat to the radiator. Could be a clogged original radiator too.
