The experts on these forums talk about an engine swap like it's replacing an air filter. In reality, this is obviously a heavy duty procedure that very few are equipped to ever tackle. Engine crane, serious garage space, etc.
If guy with a basic toolbox had a blown engine and need to get an engine swap done, how would he even do this? You can't exactly carry an engine to the mechanic in your trunk. Do you have the engine shipped directly to the mechanic, then get your Jeep towed there, and have him do the swap?
What does the average mechanic charge for an engine swap? 10 hours? 20 hours? what would this cost him? Engine, shipping, labor....$3000? Honestly, it seems easier to just buy another XJ. For less.

Haha its not my gf so no pics.
She said the motor is done. She said there was to many things to text so she would tell me the next time she sees me. But shes having them put another motor in it.

You can swap an engine with a standard socket set, a $120 engine hoist and a piece of ply wood...

She just bought this vehicle for $6,000. Lets say she goes out and and finds another identical one for $6,000, then she has $12k into vehicles, and is starting over with another unknown vehicle. And has to basically give the one away that has the bad engine. Not such a good deal now, is it?
A salvage yard engine makes good economic sense here IF needed.

perhaps you should consider renameing yourself BUMMERjeeper as it seems you frequently complain about the lack of detail people include in there replies. always the negative waves man.
dont you think that someone knows in there own mind if they can perform the suggested repair? Dont really need captain obvious to constantly complain that someone isnt providing enough detail. if the poster has additional questions they will seek the answers on here or countless other avenues available to them, you do dont you?
my guess is that lots of people including myself are lousy at typeing and going into lots of detail isnt always required. in addition most any question has been covered on one forum or another at some point,so a quick google will frequently answer youre question.so why not chill a bit and quit b i t c h in....thanks

Just get a few tools and buddies and do an engine swap. If you can't do it on your own, then have the shop do it. Save as much cash as you can, and learn from the experience. My buddy just had to have his motor swapped in his ZJ. He didn't have the resources (and neither do I) so he had to take it to his family's mechanic. Luckily he got a discount for knowin the guy well. Most people aren't as lucky. A motor swap can be a very big deal for some people.

The only real determining factor is the individuals mind set.
Unless, of course, you live in an apartment where they don't allow work in the parking spot.

1st you can swap an engine with just a socket set... or even a basic tool set and engine hoist from harbor frieght is like 80 bucks.. hell you can rent one from autozone for like 50 bucks... oh btw i did it in the street in front of my house about a parking space wide... so I do not believe that is a ton of room.... and the motor i came home in the trunk of another jeep... so yea you can fit a complete motor in the trunk of your jeep... btw I am not a expert... but it was a learning experience i miss that jeep...
plain and simple if you have not done this yourself don't add input... I am not trying to be mean or rude just honest.. thank you and have a great day

A engine swap can be done with minimal tools and a cheap engine hoist. I'm a seasoned vet at engine swaps. Less than 2 hours for me start to finish. Should take a normal person 6-8 hours.

You can't replace a tail light without making a thread on it. Stop giving people dumb advise.
