Smile Power Windows not working?

I just bought a 2000 Cherokee Classic, when i bought it the guy told me that the windows only worked from the driver control, (so i got him to bring it down a couple hundred dollars) but does anyone know what causes this, or have any experience with this problem?
Any advice would be great!

You can lock them out on the older XJs to keep kids from playinmg with them. IDK about the newer ones. Mine is controlled by the lower left switch on the drivers switch array panel.

I do have the "lock out" feature so they can't control the windows but even when not turned on they do not work. I also noticed last night, the small green light is on any of the passengers window controls, but the lights are on, on the drivers controls and passengers lock.
I did hear it was a common problem but if there is an easy solution i wanna fix it.

Could just be a bad or unhooked plug inside the drivers door. If you don't have a green lite on any of the doors except the drivers door then that sounds likely that the locks are in the lockout mode. You have to open the door panel on the drivers door first to see if that helps isolate the problem.

The answer is this over time the window lock switch goes bad, trust me my 98 cherokee classic did the same thing, luckly I had a spare driver side window control switch panel I swapped them and immediately the problem was fixed, now all windows work from their own switches, so all you got to do is replace the driver side window switch.

got a 98 xj sport and mine just did the same thing. i removed the door panel and looked at the electrical plugs and the power window one was a little loose. i unplugged it an replugged it and the windows started working again.

Here is what you can do if you dont mind by passing the window switch. the only problem would be you cant lock the windows and isolate them from the kids in the back. but its super easy. its located right on the driver side behind the panel on the side. all you have to do is connect the brown wire with the yellow wire and your set. FREE.

mtparker97 You sir are a "STAR". Ive been trying to figure out why none of my windows worked other than from the drivers door. I suspected the lockout switch but wasnt sure. Read your post and did the jumper wire and now all windows work again. Been about 3 years. Thanks again

I have the same year and had the same issue. Like everyone said, its the window lock. I used a paper clip as a by pass and wrapped it in electrical tape. Worked fine, till i hit a bump. i just need to reset it.

Funny this came back up today, as I just got another XJ yesterday, a 98 Classic that has this issue again!
I might jump the wire, but I would prefer to keep the lock out feature, as my dog loves riding with me, and I would be afraid somehow he could hit the window switch and get himself stuck while I was driving..
I know its a long shot for that to happen, but better safe then sorry

I would rather have the lockout working on mine but they want 175 bucks at the dealer. You can only get the whole switch panel. I'm a bit scared to try and disasemble mine to see if the switch is fixable.

$175? Thats crazy..
Local pull-a-parts should have them for under $10, but then you may run into the same issue again...
