Default power window trouble..

on my 99xj the drivers side window will roll up and down just fine, but if i roll it all the way down it makes a poping sound until i let go of the switch, and then it wont roll back up unless i pull the window up a bit with pliers.. it also makes this noise when the window is all the way up.. what could this be?

sounds like the regulator is damaged. Time to pull the interior door panel off and have a look inside.

My 2000 XJ was doing the same thing. You have to pull the window regulator and motor out of the door and pull the "fuzzy" looking spiral cable out and reinstall it the other way. It gets worn down and reinstalling it the other way puts the motor gear on a fresh section of the spiral cable. It's free and really easy. For really good directions on how to do it follow the link at the bottom. It's actually a link for a different kind of window repair but at the bottom it has the article on how to fix the grinding.
