Default power steering pump?

best way to bleed the system(get the bubbles out)? any special tools? Can there be anyway to take the p/s fluid out from the P/S gear box? and when the P/S gear box goes bad what will it do? would it affect the P/S pump?

my jeep has been making crying noise right above the p/s pump..we changed the belt and pulley and its still crying.. it has NO tensioner pulley where you can easily take off the belt. its recommend to loosen the P/S pump to take off the belt.

i got the tensioner and belt from auto zone.. Can a belt from the dealership "which is like 60 bucks" make a difference between the autozone belt?

The ps system will self bleed as the wheels are turned full right to full left, however it will take time. When there's no more air bubbles coming to the surface then it's bled. There really is no way of getting all the fluid out of the gear box. As far as the noise if the pump ran low on fluid for some time it could have damaged the pump internally. The gearbox won't effect the pump. I would try some Lucas ps additive and see if it quiets it down. If not try and have a shop flush the system before spending more money on a pump

Like RatchetMaster10 said to bleed the pump just crank the steering wheel all the way to on directing the to the other. It will a while to get it bleed out completely. Also you may want to check your belt again to make sure it is tight enough. The Jeep belts have to be really tight. You may want to check into buying a belt tension gauge. I wont believe on how tight that they have to be.

So air in the system would make crying noise? because every time i step on the gas it gets louder and after awhile driving it the noise kinda gos away..

so i went ahead and lifted the front wheels, put in new fluid and turned the wheel back and forth.. and i do see alot of bubbles! man ive been turning the wheel back and forth like 60 time and there still bubbles..

Air in the system can make the crying noise. In some cases a bearing that is failing in the pump can cause noise too but not usually a crying noise. Try the Lucas additive and if that doesn't fix it I would be looking at replacing the pump. As for the pulley it is a press fit onto the shaft on the pump and doesn't free spin

My '98 XJ Sport is making the squealing sound at the pump, I'm gonna have to replace it. I also know that the steering gearbox is bad. My questions are: Is there any tricks or tips to replacing the gearbox? Should I install a new gearbox to a new steering pump, then install the assembly as a unit, or should I install the pump first, then the steering gear box? I haven't bought any of the parts yet...not sure if it's something I have the ability/tools to do. How do I remove the pitman arm and reinstall it to the new box?
