Default Power steering interchange question

So I drive 2 hours today to get some parts for my xj. And these experts sell me a 1990 power steering pump but my jeep is a 1989. Will these parts interchange? Enging 4.0 i6

The pumps are not the same.
1987-1989 pn 53005437
1990 pn 53008448

This doesn't mean it will not fit. You have to try, the differences might be only internal.

Well when you take the old one off you compare them (pulley, mounts, fittings etc) and if they are the same you put the new one on and fill it up with atf and give it a try.
Note: when you fill the reservoir it takes a while till the whining sound goes away.

It will probably be fine. I used a 97' on my '96 but I had to change out one of the parts to get the line attached. I have pics here.
