Is 97-00 Power Steering same as 88-96?
Are the power steering assemblies the same across all these years?
I bought a new pump/pulley/reservoir assembly off of ebay and it came off of a 97'. My jeep is a 96'.
I put it on yesterday and everything bolted up okay except the metal line on the top. It doesn't want to thread in at all. It starts to, but it never bites down and tightens, just spins. There is very little clearance between the line and the edge of the reservoir so it makes me think that the line was bent differently on 97-00's. The line was quite hard to get loose on my original assembly, but I looked at the threads and nothing is damaged on there. So, I dont understand why it doesn't seem to want to work unless they changed the line.

Do you think it is possible to remove the fitting from my old pump and put it on this newer one? Or should I just look into the 97+ line?
I would like to try to make do without buying more parts, lol.

I possibly could be dealing with a stripped thread preventing me from tightening this thing down. It starts to tighten and then just spins freely and never gets tight.
Does anyone know the size of that male fitting that goes into the top of the power steering pump so that I can try to check the threads? I guessed 1/4 NPT but I could be wrong..

Ok I think I solved my problem here. Something was definitely wrong with the threads on the female half of the pipe fitting on the pump. I am guessing it is stripped. So, I took the piece off of my bad power steering pump. Surprisingly, it worked.
Pics:
I wont know for sure if it worked until I can start the engine and take it for a spin but it all went back together correctly from what I can tell.
Hope this info helps someone, I was about to start shopping for yet another power steering pump/reservoir assembly until I thought to try this.
