Default Power mirror switch mounting spot?

Hello everyone, this being my first post I'll say I recently picked up a new 96 Cherokee to get into the hobby and love it. Although it came with the interior stripped and I'm slowly piecing it together with parts I randomly find in junkyards and what not. However this leaves me with my first question, where the heck does this switch for the power mirrors mount?

I'm not sure if this was a middle console specific thing but I haven't been able to find any examples. Thanks for any help.

The switch mounts behind the aftermarket cup holder shown, right below the console cover button.Did the XJ come with power mirrors or were they added. If not original there will not be a cut out for the switch.

Interesting, well my XJ came factory with power mirrors, but unfortunately didn't have a middle console when I bought it. I ripped this one out of a 96 classic I found which had the manual mirrors.

Thanks for the info, looks like I'll have to cut up a spot for it.

Since you have the cup holder, it goes just under the driver side on the front face. Mine came with power mirrors and center console so the switch was located were Dandxj said. The cupholder already had the cutout, so I just pulled the switch out of the console and was able to pull enough of the harness out to reach the new location. Note the orientation so the selector switch and rocker matches the correct mirror and movement.

Yeah that orientation is definitely new information, as I just found the thing just lying on the floor when I got it.

I was thinking about putting it there, thank you for the info/picture I'll mimic what you did.

One more thing, if you're in the habit of using the handbrake (ebrake), you loose a bit of grip since some of it is under the cupholder. If your e-brake cable is a bit loose, you may pull the handle up high enough to break the cup holder.

I don't really use mine, but I did tighten it up bit enough where I can't push my Jeep in neutral.

Yeah I kind of figured that, I was gonna try cutting the cupholder a little bit to allow for a bit more clearance (tightening the cable would probably be smarter)...

Buuut my e-brake doesn't work at all right now , and I have yet to figure that one out. The cable going into the driver-side drum break feels very loose and rattles around in there, so I'm assuming that's a connection issue in that break somewhere at least.

You can't really alter the cup holder for any more clearance without cutting into where the cups sit. And it's pretty useless for anything bigger than a can, I hated mine and binned it.

Your best bet is to take the drum off and see if anything's wrong, especially as you're a new owner to it. You may as well check just to be sure nothing's wrong.

Yeah the cup holder kinda sucks but, for those few cups out there that fit... sometimes, it's nice. If I can't alter it too much without ruining it I'll just trash it too.

I'll take the break apart when I get the time to get under it again.

I like to the the lid to rest my elbow on so having a cup there always got in my way. If you look in my signature you'll see my XJ Cup holder design I made. Some people don't like using screws or it's position but for me it's perfect and holds our UK large fast food cups no problem. And it lifts straight up and out if the transfer case shifter is needed.
