I started driving the 2000 Cherokee back in Jan '10 and the power locks from the driver side control panel worked fine as well as from the passenger side. As the weather began to warm up and humidity increase, the function of both became more intermittent.
I've read a little before this post and I learned that the function of the passenger side lock control is tied to the drivers control. When it began, if the driver side failed to lock or unlock, I would reach across and use the passenger side and it would work sometimes, sometimes not. As I said, it became intermittent.
Now, with the total heat wave and humidity were having in SC, these are not working at all and I must do it the old fashioned way.
Any one have any ideas on how to approach correcting this issue? It seems that if weather has an affect on it, maybe there's some type of "clearance" or "contact" issue with a relay or such?
Help

the problem is the window lock button has gone bad. Happened in mine too. You can go get a new switch. But since i dont need window locks so i bypassed it. You maybe able to find it if you search "window lock bypass"

I'm having a very similar issue - I'm not sure if it has to do with the heat we've been getting lately but possibly?
My drivers side door will only lock manually. The keyless entry fob will lock/unlock all the other doors just fine though. I can see the drives side door lock try to lock and unlock when I use either the switch inside or the keyless, but it just won't make it all the way. Actuator going bad?
I searched and read through about 20 post about this but none of them really came to a conclusion/resolution. If I get mine going I'll let you know what it took, return the favor if you get yours working..if you would kind sir.

Thanks for the input. I will talk to my mechanic today to see what he thinks could be the issue/solution. He does foreign and domestic autos and is usually pretty inquisitive about these things.

I'm actually thinking mine just needs cleaned. I noticed its got a bit of resistance when I manually lock the door - after locking/unlocking several times it started to unlock on it's own.
I'm installing a new head unit in her next week so I'll likely throw a set of Kickers in the doors as well, while I'm in there I'll give it a real good cleaning and hopefully that does the trick. I'll update with my results.

Wouldn't you know that as I was on my way to see the mechanic, with the A/C running pretty hard, I hit the lock button and it worked fine. I hit it several times along the way and it worked every time.
This causes me to believe that it's temperature related. In the winter, it worked fine. It was only as the weather/season began to turn that it became intermittent.

After installing a new head unit in the Jeep last night I noticed my drivers-side front speaker was no longer working. I'm guessing my problem with the speaker/lock is within the "boot" that goes from the door to the interior - when I put pressure on it the speaker starts working.
I'm going to tear into this weekend - give it a good cleaning and likely do some rewiring. Will report back with what I come up with.

I'm not sure how to approach my issue. Let me know what you've done with the audio in yours. I still have all factory stuff and would like to put something in that sounds better without breaking the bank.

I had a grand am with power locks that would give me trouble all the time. Fixed it by removing the switches and spraying them down with some good electrical cleaner from NAPA. Moisture gets in them and then the copper/brass contacts in the switch get some fuzzy green corrosion on them and stop working.
I just replaced the window regulator in my driver window in the process I though I could fix the door lock I could get it to lock and unlock before I put the panel back on after I put the panel back on it wont move back n forth any longer it almost seems as if it's jammed into the locking side but yet its not even locked. .. . . Any suggestions also the dealer told me I need a new door locks for the front two doors and said it was gonna be $590 for parts anything other than that would be great.
