Default possible axle score... gear questions though..

Found a guy on craiglist bout an hour from me who got a wagoneer front dana 44 for his ranger 4x4 conversion... then he scored some wheels he really liked but have the 5x4.5 so wont work on the waggy axle... so hes looking now for someone to trade the waggy axle and another pumkin to a waggy front axle for a dana 30... which of course is in the front of my jeep... so im thinking about doing the conversion... my biggest problem is that makes my jeep not drivable for along time... cause ill be swaping stuff around... but for a free score i cant complain to much... my questions are... what gears did these waggys come with? it is the drivers side drop... hes suppose to check for me but doesnt know... dont think he knows much bout 4x4's really... ive read some articles about the swaps and will have to reread if i do it to see what else will need and stuff but for now these are what im trying to figure out... also i have the dana44 in the back now with 3.54 gears... are 3.54 gears compatible with 3.55 gears? i know with the dana35's anything more then the 3.55's id have to change carriers... is this also true with the dana44's in the back? also how does that work in the front dana44's? the same? thanks for the help guys!!

Also if any of you have the links saved for people doing the D44 up front swap fill free to stick them in here... save me from searching them all up myself if all goes well but i guess i can do it no problem... dont go searching for them yourself though cause i can do that... thanks again!

i think carrier split on dana 44 is like 3.90 or something. I know 3.73's will work on that same carrier. Odds are that axle has either 3.55's or 3.73's. I know a lot of ford hp44's come with 4.10's but I dont think the waggys did. Again I may not be 100% on this its just from what ive seen out there. Personally im not a big fan of building that axle because its low pinion, not a whole lot better than a 30.

Go to the junkyard and buy a d30. then trade him for the d44.

even if you dont do the swap you can sell the d44 for more than you paid for the d30.

^^ agreed. This will give you time to work on the axle and drive the jeep.
