i've had two 2x4 jeeps and they were great vehicles. i was actually looking for only a 2x4 when i found mine. 4x4 is not a necessity at all for a vehicle and is usually more of a hinderance for the normal person.
my buddy lupe has a 2x4 jeep on a 3" lift and it looks great. he has 31s and black rims on his. said he wanted to look but no the hassle.

Hey i actually posted earliere about adding a BB to my 3" rough country lift, here is my experience idk if it would help you.
Had stock jeep and installed the basic 3" RC lift and i added some 265/75R16 which were about 32's.
My jeep drove just fine with no wobble or any problems and i didn't install anythiing else besides the 3" RC lift. I then bought a 2" BB (shackles and spacers for about $90) I installed that and when i jumped on the freeway i got the DW.
I was also getting some bumpsteer so i decided to buy the steering stabilizer which was about $30, installed that and it helped the bumpsteer but not the wobble. I had not gotten an alignment so i went to get an alignment done but i didn't try out the jeep on the freeway and i ended up buying some 30" bf goodrich tires practically new with 15x8 wrangler rims for $300 so i installed those since the tires were new and i wanted the 15x8 rims instead of my 16x7's.
Now it drives excellent on the freeway or anywhere else, im not sure it was the alignment or throwing on the smaller newer tires (my old tires were very worn and the front ones were enevenly worn pretty bad) but one of those two took the wobble away.
Point of the story i got 3" RC lift plus 2" budget boost with no extra steering components besided steering stabilizer and none of these
and it drives great. Not saying they wouldn't improve the jeep but i didn't HAVE to get them and i didn't require a good deal of money (3"RC ~$290 + Stablizer~$30 + BB ~$90)
Oh AND it's a 2wd as well. Don't really need a 4wd vehicle in L.A. and i can guarantee you that half the trucks you see on the road lifted and 4x4 probably never even go offroading. Some people like XJ's cause they're awesome offroading machines, i personally love the look of a lifted cherokee and could care less how it performs on a trail.

^ this man speaks the truth. Anything over 3" on the Cherokee requires a good deal of money; to do it right at least. I've got a 3" RC and thought about this. You pretty much HAVE to get everything he's listed above. I wouldn't bother with a TC drop kit. Do it right and get a SYE.

I couldnt agree more, I dont need a 4x4 XJ so I dont bother looking for it just to end up paying for something I never use. We occasionally get a couple inches of snow (especially with all this GLOBAL WARMING
), and that would be the only time I would ever attempt to use 4 wheel drive which would be in the wifes tahoe. I learned years ago that sticking my truck in the mud is just begging for costly repairs. And ive never been one for rock crawling since I live in the pine mtn's of GA.
Heck It's different strokes for different folks, but you will never hear me asking someone why they would want to do anything to THEIR rig. People come here for advice and other things, and if you cant offer a helping hand then in the words of Dane Cook: "You need to shut your mouth, and learn"

Boy that turned into a very heated discussion. I personally would never waste money lifting a 2 wheel drive, but if he wants too, that's his choice. Let's all respect his passion for his jeep. At least he's not asking these questions about a toyota!

I don't have first-hand experience, but the 2wd shaft is much longer, and likely you could go to 3" or even 5" without a SYE. the geometry would be similar to a light pickup, and there are plenty of those jacked up higher than a stock Cherokee sits. But that's a generalization. Won't know until you try.

I wonder if you were to go with 4.5 inch springs and shackle extensions on top of the lift, 2x4 or 4x4, if that would help with the possibility of the DW and/or improve the ride.

I'm PERSONALLY pleased with it because i really only want the lift for looks and not offroading, someone here might tell you that it's not that great for what they are using their rig for (although i generally have not heard anything bad about RC). It's my daily driver and the only thing that slightly bugs me is ride quality so idk if upgraded shocks would have been a good idea (but then again i bought this jeep after my mercedes s500 got totaled so i might be asking for too much on ride quality lol)
Also i got the basic 3" lift which came with an add a leaf, they are not sagging now but i've heard they sag eventually so i think if i could go back i might have just upgraded to the full leaf pack.
For the price, results i got and how easy it was to install i'm very pleased.
