Possessed door lock problem SOLVED!
I have been fighting a gremlin in my wifes 01 xj for a few weeks now. The doors would lock at random.... driving, idleing, keys in or out of ignition. Sometimes they would constantly try to lock and then other times just every now and then.
I ended up completley removing both door harnesses to check for exposed wiring.. nothing found. Replaced drivers master switch... nothing (well did fix child window lock button) Removing back seat and trim were harness runs, found small rub there, but was only speaker wire.
Problem finally went away when I unplugged the Key Fob receiver in the dome light.. whole week and no unwanted locking =) found a few corroded looking surface mount resistors on the board, looks like I need to order a new one.
Here is my suggestion to anyone with a door lock issue:
1. Check the wiring inbetween body and door panel inside the rubber boot, very common failure point, especially if other things are not working, ie windows, speakers.
2. Is the problem only when driving or does it do it all the time? If it only does it when driving or hitting a bump I would check for rubbed wiring or possibly a bad relay for the door locks.
3. Remove the lense cover for the dome light, remove 2 phillips screws and slide assmy foward and down. There is a mulex connector on the Receiver board that is very easy to disconnect. See if that corrects issue.
I'm not sure if this only applies to the 97-01 models, but during my research it seems there a quite a few people with some wierd lock issues.
Hope this helps someone =)

Hmm, might have to look into that when I get back around to the XJ. My door locks have always acted up on and off since I bought it (mostly in the winter).
