I have a lot of accessories on my jeep and i plan to add more. I would like to easy installation and clean up the excessive amount of wires. I would like to run one wire from my positive battery terminal through the firewall and make an alternate terminal that I could mount somewhere next to the fuse box underneath the dash. Any ideas? Would this work? thanks for any help.

I made my own a few years back as a quick and dirty temp fix until I had time to get a second fuse box installed...turned out it worked so well I just left it, lol.

Anyways, what I did was to screw a length of 1" wide flat steel stock to a length of 2x4 wood, and then screw all the power cables to that. For the smaller wires, 12g and smaller, I connected a barrier strip to the main block, and then connected the smaller power wires to that. I have the whole mess secured under the rear seat, and connected to the battery through a 2g main wire.

Remember, when you do this, make sure you also add another ground wire to the battery, at least as large in size to the power wire you're adding, preferably a size or two bigger.

 

I have about 16 feet of 8ga sub woofer cable. would this work with a 60amp inline fuse? would this work for lets say 4 offroad lights?

 

okay so the setup im thinking of would be a plastic box with a steel strip in it that has a set of 4 or 6 screws that I can attach wires off of. then at the side i have have the 8ga sub wire running to it for the power from the terminal.

 

your descibing a common trailer part called a junction box. you can pick one up at napa pretty cheap, and with a small tube of silicone make it watertight

 

I also have a few different styles of distribution post available on my site, including one "pass-through" type (specifically for safely going through bulkheads - like your firewall.)

60 amps is about the limit I'd want to run on 8 gauge cable. Whether it would work for any lights depends on the wattage of the light. If you have the big 165 watt KCs, then you're right up on the limit, about 55 amps. If you're talking 35 or 55 watt lamps, then it would be no problem to run that off of 8g.
