Just got my 8 oz can of POR15 via Amazon and am wondering if I am going to need a second can. Says it will do 4 calipers, however I am painting 2 brake drums and 2 backing plates. Eyeballing it is kinda maybe yes/maybe no if this will cover all of that.
Anybody else brush-painted their backing plates and drums?

I remember from using it years ago on my Charger they have a special thinner and I don't have any in my old supplies either.

You can use the thinner, but worst case, order a second can. Or you can just paint the backing plates with the POR 15
Then, you can go to your local parts store and get the VHT stuff. I used the caliper paint for the drums and it has held up extremely well over the past 5 years. Not perfect, but nearly.
They sell a prep cleaner, but i think if you clean in good with a wire wheel (for any rust) and some brake clean, it should be good to be painted. I did two drums with two coats per drum with just one can of color, but I just made it. I also used the clear to keep it nice and shiny. Then I baked them for an hour at 200. (Thank god my bbq grill had an oven. If I baked them in the kitchen oven, I would have been done for.)
