i have a 89 cherokee 4.2 auto,4=4,,,,,,,,,,,,right front wheel area makes awful popping sound when going slow and applying brake with the wheel slightly turned sounds like knuckles popping any suggestions

sounds to me like your front differential spider gears. Or maybe the front passenger control arm/bushing

 

u joints maybe, hard thing to tell since your popping might be my knocking and ur knocking is my clicking, anywho check your u joints
