Popping in the front end I cannot diagnose
I simply cannot diagnose an odd popping noise that I hear from the front end when driving over rough dirt roads in my 96 XJ that is stock with the exception of a RE3.5" lift. I am a horrible diagnostician so the answer is likely the obvious one, I'm just simply oblivious.
I am unable to produce the sound when turning the wheels though it is quite frequent when driving or coasting on uneven dirt roads. My plan is to check all bolts for tightness but I don't have the excess funds to go chasing parts and don't know how to check tie rod ends and the like. I'm sure I can search for those how-to's but I'll take any advice, especially on diagnosing where this popping is coming from.
Thanks in advance,
s

Start out with by having the jeep on the ground with someone inside turning the steering wheel back and fourth while your on the ground in the front end. Then you can see if there seems to be any major problems or noises.
Then jack it up and support it by the frame just off the ground, then take another jack stand along with a cheater/pry bar and move the a-arms up and down both sides to see if the ball joints are ok. The rest is pretty easy to check and do if you need new tie rods check back here before buying stock ones.
