I found a new OEM unit for $130 so I replaced it. This was fortunate, because the minute I tried to remove it, I found the retaining nut to be loose, and when I popped it off the shaft, it broke into 3 pieces.

I used plenty of anti-sieze on the new unit, so when I pull it again in 10 years, it will come right off. Good luck to those who haven't removed/cleaned this sucker.
