Police Prep model?
I just did that VIN decode thing and it said that my jeep is a police prep model? i'm just trying to find out if i have towing package and also ABS. i don't know what size rear shoes to buy or wheel cylinder if I can't figure out if i have ABS. My brakes kinda suck. thanks guys
follow your brake lines, if it goes into a big funny looking valve body, its abs, if it just goes into a small junction block, its not.
or look at your front wheels, see if there are wires going into your hubs. and i think the abs sensor for the rear would stick out the top of the diff.

easy way to see if you have ABS, open hood look in relay box, if there is an ABS relay you have ABS no replay no ABS. also some one else correct me if I'm wrong but all the shoes are the same size on the dana 35s and 8.25s
what about this weird police model that the VIN decoder said i had? how do i fond out if i have a towing package and what is a police prep model. my xj is a '96 RED 4door 4x4 Classic Auto 4.0
nice! so i guess that means i need to get different kinda brakes? cause i saw at autozone they have a separate category for police package brakes. but is there a more reliable way of figuring out what trim level i have. i feel skeptical about that website i went to.

as far as im aware the two sizes of rear brakes are the 9inch and 10 inch, which are easily told apart from either having cooling fins on the drum or not.
The 9inch is smooth on the outside, no fins, 10inch has the cooling fins, which are basically little ribs.
edit: heres some pictures, just look you cant go wrong on it.
this is the 9 inch as explained
and thats the 10".

just went through this myself.....your brake shoes are either 9 inches long and 2.5 wide, or they are 10 inches long and 1.75 inches wide, you most likely have the 9 inch ones if you have a chrysler 8.25, but the best way to check is to just take the tire off an get a quick measurment of width and height, call autozone and have them verify they have the same width and height for that year. mine being a 99 had 01 shoes on it...kind of weird.
ok. but if i have the police package doesnt that mean i have 10: drums? i will measure 2mara to find out but what about really finding out for certain what tri, package i have. is there a GOOD website for checking my VIN?

You could always try and remove the drum and measure the shoe or drum. Whatcha think about that.
If you got a d35 you got abs brakes.
