Angry Please help me im new!!!!

i have an 88 cherokee...233k miles..so its on its last leg but the motor runs good aside from the valve knocks....my delima i have a 96 for parts its a sport with the H o 4.0 litre.my question is my tranny is going out and i was wondering if i could just swap the motor and tranny and case and have no problems. i dont know anything about the electrical systems or how they work so please.. some one help me? any advice is nice.. what is this OBD stuff. will it affect me

well the problem is your 88 and your 96 are different. The blocks are the same. Are they both auto trannys?

yes there both autos i thought they both had the aw4 tranny

ok so are you putting the 96 into the 88?

yeah i kinda have to... its my daily driver and i go to tech school so i need to make this work... what would be the difficultites if i am pullin it all out of one and putting it back in the other?

well even with them being the same jeep they are different. If you look at them you can see what Im talking about. I would say try and just replace the tranny or you will have to strip both motors down to the bolcks and put all the 88 stuff on the 96. Its not the much I did it to mine not to long ago. Its just tje electrical it different. O and dont forget your flexplates are different also.

i had the same dillemna i have a 90 with 261,xxx and a 94 for parts. i was gonna swap the motor over but i dont want to deal with changing over the harness. so i instead decided i would rather do some body work over mechanical. and now i am going to make the 94 my dd and the 90 my trail beater

Ya I would do body work over motor work but I have an 88 for parts and I drive my 91 but over all its not that hard to swap them. I just stripped down both and put the 88 block in the 91 and had very little problems. Because the jeep you want to keep has all the wiring in it already.
