Default Please help me diagnose my stereo problem

I have no background in electrical systems or car radios so I thought I'd consult the esteemed folks at Cherokee Forum. Anyways, my radio/stereo has a big problem. It shuts off even before any sound comes out. It's really bizarre because it might work a little bit but once I turn on the a.c. it shuts off. Sometimes it will work first thing in the morning then it starts giving me these problems about ten minutes later. It used to be if that if I completely unplugged it that it might work for a little bit. However, that is annoying. It is a Sony Xplod if that helps.

Thanks for any help and I apologize for my ignorance on the topic.

most people are going to say to check all your grounds. but a good first step is to check the fuse under the hood. I cant remember which one it was, but when i was reading through my owners manual trying to figure out what fuses went with what, it mentioned intermittent radio problems could be a lose fuse, and it said which specific one. guess it was a problem in design they didnt care to fix. mine was in there pretty tight, not blown, but i put in a new replacement and never had any problems since.

Before you start checking this and fixing that, start with the basics.

How long has this been a problem?
Did anything get worked on or changed at the same time this started?
