Time for an 8.8. Still c clip but a great cheap upgrade. You can find em with gears up to 4.10 and a posi for a hundred bucks if you look hard enuf. It gives you disc brakes too. Check out my 8.8 beef up in the fab section.

OK, If I switch axles, which one should I switch to?

Also, this Dana35, is this NP231 or 242? Just in case I order the SYE.

I am not very mechanically inclined and likely have this done at the same time as the 3.5" lift, which is already waiting n boxes.

Swapping for an axle from another vehicle, even with disk brakes, seems like a pretty big project, requiring a bunch of modification to sub systems like brakes, emergency brake, spyder pinion to read the speed correctly, etc.

What are the advantages of changing the diff to a 44 or a completely different axle? I do not intend to rock climb or flex - no diconnects. This is just for trail and SAR work...

Thanks.

Look on the back of your transfer case and you'll see a tag like this. The top # is what t case you have. This one is a 242.

Most folks dont need the 8.8 and cant do the work themselves. In this case, an 8.25 would be best.

You dont have to worry about the speedo, just make sure the rear axle gearing matches your front. But if you had planned to regear that doesnt much matter.

I would get a Chrysler 8.25. Its a direc bolt in. It will be the easiest to swap.

Although I'm willing to bet that 35 would take anything you will throw at it.

This. I'm plannin on keeping my 35 for the time. Just not doin anything to it. I've got 3.73s so I'm pretty content with this one. Eventually wanna run dana 60s but that's a decent amount of work lol
