Default Please Help Guys...

I may be going to look at a Cherokee Sport. It is cheap, looks good, but needs floor work. I would honestly replace the floor pans, and uni rails if needed. I remember a problem year with head issues, but that may be a 95? I am not sure. This is a 96. Anything bad on this year to stay away from?
Here's the add! Thanks for any input on this year or what to look for. Thanks!

Late 1999 and up have the head problems.Stamped 0331 I do believe it is. 96 isn't a bad year that I know of but I'm not that experienced with the older style Cherokees. It seems like I do recall something about the 96 year having electric problems or something but my brother had a 96 and had zero problems with his.

If the rails are rotted, find another XJ. The floors and rockers are easy enough though.

'96 achilles heel is the fuel pressure regulator, it's a one year only part that's no longer made. The rest of it is pretty standard.
I read in another thread here that someone got the whole fuel pump/regulator assembly from Crown, so that might be a resource.

That's a decent price if it's in good operating condition, IMHO.

Thanks guys. That deal fell through. I keep watching the craiglist. Most i am seeing have floor and frame issues. I will find one! I have heard the drivetrain lasts a long time, and is durable. I won't be doing off roading. Just normal driving.
I keep looking! I am just making sure I know what years to stay away from!

I am still looking. I want one badly, just being cautious of what year.
So I am seeing 99 and up, is not good??
I seen a clean 2001, thats a bummer.
And the other was a 2000.
What would be the best years to look for?
I know those 4.0's are awesome engines, I have been told. Don't know much about the Trannys.
Just making sure I find the "good years", to look at. Sorry to be a pain.

99 is the best year IMO. Most HP vs prior years, new interior, high pinion Dana 30, I have yet to see one with the 0331 head. Pretty rare. Mine does not. Just look to see if it has coil packs. 2000 up you get the "crack prone head", coil packs instead of distributor and low pinion dana 30. Ive had a few (89, 93, 94, 96, and 99) The 99 is by far my favorite. (still have the 93 too- wifes winter beater)

Plenty of people run 2000+ without ever cracking their head. Just something that occasionally happens (probably closer to rarely)

The AW4 is awesome!

Thank you very much!! Thats odd, I had someone else tell me look for a
98/99 also. Must be something about those two years.
I will keep looking online. I really like these Jeeps. And I like the straight 6. They have been a great motor in most vehicles.
