94 cherokee started knocking sounds deep in the engine. Drove home one day jeep started jerking when got on the gas like it wasn't getting any. At idel motor knocks but doesnt drop in RPm's or anything. Have no idea what it could be any help would be great before i buy a new engine.

 

Check the torque converter bolts and the flexplate for cracks first.

 

Thanks will do. Just bought a 1999 cherokee sport 138,xxx on it for less than a new engine will cost me. I will see what kind of suprises this one brings me.
