31 x 10.50's on stock backspacing of 5.5 will only stick out of the stock flares by less than an inch.

so if the stock backspacing is 5.5",does that mean if there is a backspacing of 3.5" then the tires will stick out 2" further.

here is the new deal i just found at rusty's off road
  • Rusty’s off Road 4.5 XJ Spring Pack Kit
  • 4 - 32-11.50-15 BFG KM Mud terrain
  • 4 - 15x8 Allied Black Daytona Wheels
  • 4 – Caps & 20 ½ lug nuts
  • Tires are mounted & balanced
all for 1470.00
sounds like a great deal to me but i would have to use the aftermarket fender flares to make it look the way i want it right?

Transfer cases

All the transfer cases used on the Cherokee were chain driven with aluminum housings. Command-Trac was standard on XJ models built with 4WD.
  • 1984 – 1987 : New Process NP207 "Command-Trac", part-time only, 2.61:1 ratio with low range
  • 1987 – 2001 : New Process NP231 "Command-Trac", part-time only, 2.72:1 ratio with low range
  • 1987 – 2001 : New Process NP242 "Selec-Trac", full-time/part-time, 2.72:1 ratio with low range
You can tell by looking at the tag on the back of the case. its easy to see unless covered with grease like mine is

One of the most common wheel backspacing is 3.75" but that is mostly for 13.50+ wide tires. I would recommend 4.00" if you going with 32 11.50's. As far as the fender flares go, rustys sells nice ones that might stick out enough to cover the full tire.
