please help about to give up on my xj
This thread has been a mess, we all agree I think. But boy we really piled onto this guy here. I think of this forum as a community of enthusiasts, some very skilled and knowledgeable, others like me much less talented just trying to find our way.
Sometimes people get shy of mechanics, I know I did. As a young guy I got burnt one too many times with the local mechanic and finally bought my first Haynes manual and started fixing the old POS Buick that I owned.
(I am not saying all mechanics are dishonest, I am saying SOME are just as there are in every walk of life).
I have since learned there are some jobs I don't do, for that I finally found a good mechanic. Pull the engine - fine, I'm all over it > rebuild the engine, no way, it will be an epic fail.
I didn't read every post related to the OP but if they have limited resources, limited local friends with know how and are afraid to get rear-ended by another mechanic, they will try EVERYTHING they can to avoid a visit to a shop.
I spent several years as a young man away from family and the security of the area I grew up in, with a financial position where if you said this repair will be $25 I would say okay I can pay next month, until then I will have to walk. But if you say this repair will be $250 you might as well say it is a million dollars because there is NO WAY I would have ever come up with $250 at one time.
Thankfully things have improved a bit, but just saying, if a guy has been screwed by a dishonest mechanic - having a whole bunch of guys on this forum dog piling him saying 'I am a mechanic and you must take your jeep to a mechanic - stupid' is not going to help.

i know the OP and like previously suggested he is going to have a mechanic look at it, the flatbed just came to pick it up he says, so thanks for your help everyone but don't waste anymore of your time with explaining how to do a leakdown or other possible causes that it might be.
ok so my mechniac called me last night and said he just cant figure it out and that it has to be the computer cause did compression test and all was good and its still saying all the sensors are bad that i replaced but he took them out and there all still brand new. so it has to be the computer right ?

I don't know if it would be the same as for you but my connector that bolts to the side of the computer was going bad. I replaced every sensor and even the computer. It was giving me codes that didn't even apply to my jeep.
