Piston rings
Alright I've got a 96 XJ that I'm in the process of rebuilding the motor. It looks like someone already redid the top of it but I'm trying to get the right piston rings. Both sets I've gotten we're too big although the part numbers are right and that's what comes up in the system. Were some of these made with smaller rings? Or when whoever changed the top end did they swap different pistons in?

Physically too thick to fit in the grooves on the piston. We ordered a set from an O'reillys should see them on Tuesday so hopefully they're the right ones. If I had the right ones it would be mostly back together already

Ok was making sure you didn't mean in circumference
Is the part number the same for all years? If the motor was gone through already they could have swapped the pistons or something

Yep he tried multiple years and they're all the same. Although he called up a different store and they have two different part numbers so we ordered a set. Should be here Tuesday so hopefully this pig will be up and back running by this weekend. And then it's time to fix floors and build some bumpers

Buying parts for a '96 is a job for Indiana Jones sometimes, lol. I have one too.
For chuckles and grins, ask your parts store for a fuel pressure regulator. I guarantee every one of them will hand you the 91-95 part because their computer says it fits a '96. (it doesn't). Repeat ad nauseum....
