So I just noticed about halfway into my moab trip that the trans cooler lines got pinched between the oil pan and control arm....they do not leak and the pinch doesn't look like it's completely cut off...fluid still flows through the line but I have 1000 miles to home and am not able to get the line replaced until I get back. The transmission shifts fine but I'm worried that it could just overheat and leave me stuck. What are some signs I should look for that would tell me to pull over? The fluid is more brown than red but it doesn't smell burnt. Is there a CEL code for a overheating transmission on a 96 XJ? Is it possible that I could "un-pinch" the line without breaking it?
You can get a mini tube cutter at an auto parts store for around $10. You ought to keep one in your tool kit.
